Australians’ Easy Victory: Ring Five Wickets For 69
(10.50 a.m.) LONDON. Aug. 27 Great bowling by Ring started the Australians on their way to a
thrilling win by an innings and 81 runs against Gentlemen at Lords The last wicket fell to Johnson with 35 minutes left to play. Gentlemen were all out for 284 after a first innings tally of 245. Ring’s five wickets for 69 In 32 overs was a reward for an admirably maintained length, subtle control, variation of pace and flight. When he L../keri Edrich Into a catch behind with a ueautiful leg-break Gentlemen still had a hope of drawing the game, but hopes vanished when Ring followed this success with the wickets of Yardley, Mann and Wooller in quick succession. Edrich’s innings of 123 was a gallant ono on a slightly worn wicket. The New Zealander Donnelly again failed. He was missed before he scored and after making eight skied a ball to forward leg. Australia was without Dindwall today who was in bed with a chill. The Australians in their first innings scored 610 for five, declared.
