Gisborne, 21st July. 1948. 262 HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD ENTRANCE TO TEACHING PROFESSION TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTSHIPS, 1949. APPLICATIONS will be received at the Education Board Office, Napier, up till Ist September, 1948, from applicants desirous of entering Training College in 1949. (1) The minimum educational qualification for admission is a pass in the School Certificate Examination. Candidates must be not less than 17 years of age on 28th February, 1949. Provisional application may be made now by candidates who are sitting for the School Certificate examination this year, but preference for admission will be given to candidates who hold the necessary academic qualification at the time application for admission is made. (2) Applications are also invited from servicemen and ex-servicemen who may be accepted provisionally provided they have had three years’ good secondary education, or if they are sitting University Entrance or School Certificate Examination this year. (3) Special Course in Home Science: To assist in overcoming the shortage of Domestic Science teachers, arrangements have been made to train students so as to give them the opportunity of qualifying for a special Home Craft Teacher's Certificate. Part of the twoyear course will be taken at the Dunedin Training College and part at approved Post-primary schools. The qualifications for admission to this special course are exactly the same as for Training College students except that servicewomen may apply under the qualification conditions stated in (2) above. Candidates who wish to be considered for admission to this special course are invited to indicate their preference on the form of application lodged with the Board. (4) The allowance payable to _ all students under 21 years of age is £145 per annum plus a boarding allowance of £4O if obliged to live away from •home. For students of 21 years or over the allowance payable is £285 per annum for males and £230 for females, but no boarding allowance. Servicemen or servicewomen applying under paragraph f2) or (3) should communicate with the Board regarding the rate of salary payable, which will be higher than the rates quoted if they are over the age of 21 years.
