JULY RAINFALL OF 2.571 N. WELL BELOW AVERAGE

With the exception of January and February, two drought months, less rain fell in Gisborne during July than in any month this year. The rainfall recorded at Darton Field last month was 2.57 in., while the recording at signal station, Kaiti Beach, was 3.29 in. Rain was recorded on 12 days at Darton Field, while on five other days a trace was noted. The heaviest 24hour fall was ,dßin. on July 8.

During the past 70 years the heaviest rainfall in Gisborne during July was 14. lain, in 1010; the driest July was in 1014, when only 39in. fell. The average rainfall for the month is 4.98 in. In July last year the rainfall totalled 4.49 in.

To date this year ;he rainfall at Darton Field totals 33.84 in., almost 4in. more than for the corresponding period in 1947. and Loin/ more than the average for the first seven months of tins year.

Rain fell on 11 days, with a trace on a further five days at the signal Ration, the total being 3.29 in., compared with 4.0G1n. in July last year.
