LONDON WOOL PRICES FIRM AT CLOSE

LONDON, July 23
The fourth series of London wool sales concluded today. The offerings totalled 29,640 bales, of which 27,843 were sold. New Zealand submitted 15,533 and Australia 12,939 bales. The sales closed on a firm tone under sustained home trade and European competition. Throughout the series a total of 130,300 bales were offered, of which 119,200 were sold. The Home trade bought 62,200 and the Continent 57,000. After opening easy, the market became firmer and competition was keen. The rates for best Merinos were unchanged, and others were from par to 5 per cent lower than the closing prices of the third series.
