SUPERPHOSPHATE PRICE REDUCED BY 10/- PER TON
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 24. The price of superphosphate is to he reduced by 10s per ton, said the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. E. L. Cullen. This decision, he added had been reached after consultation with the Trice Investigation Tribunal and the Economic Stabilisation Commission.
The Price Investigation Tribunal would issue an appropriate price order making this reduction effective in respect to orders dispatched on and after July 1, 1943. This reduction, said Mr. Cullen, would be reflected in lower prices for various fertiliser mixtures in which superphosphate was used and farmers whose orders had been dispatched to them on and after July 1 should look to their fertiliser suppliers for appropriate credits.
‘This decision has been made sp that farmers may place orders for immediate delivery and thus ensure that the fertiliser works arc enabled to operate economically It should also facilitate the better utilisation of available transport facilities.” The Minister emphasised that this reduction would apply throughout the 1948-49 rationing period and was made irrespective of the final cost position which could not be determined until later in the season.
It had, therefore, been necessary to arrange that the financial position of fertiliser manufacturers be safeguarded if it was eventually found that such a reduction was not justified on the basis of actual costs.
