PRODUCE MARKET: WELLINGTON RATES

Fruit values have firmed, although New Zealand grapefruit has been difficult to place, states the weekly report from Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Limited, fruit and produce merchants, Wellington. The demand for tree tomatoes had been very good and values were definitely rising. All classes of vegetables were in strong demand, particularly cabbage, parsnips, Ohakune carrots and silverbeet. It was reported that heavy supplies of flowers had been offered and values were still satisfactory. Quotations:—Tree tomatoes, 10s to 17s; Chinese gooseberries, large, 15s to 19s; Meyer lemons. Os to Ss half-case: pnssionfruit. 3s fid to 4s per dozen: choice grapefruit, Ss to 14s: sweet oranges. 10s to 15s bushel: Drumhead cabbage and spring, celling; silverbeet, parsnips, Ohakune carrots, ceiling: other carrots, 12s to 14s; pumpkins, Triumble, 8s to 12s; rod, 5s to Ss; swedes, Ss: cauliflowers, best 17s to Os, others 12s to 16s sack; leeks, 2Ss to 525; celery, 3os to 455; yams. 14s to 17s; marrows, Ss to 10s; rhubarb.
