NEW LEVEL FOR HOGGETS AT MATAWHERO

SMALL ENTRY PENNED

Store hogget values found a new level at the Matawhero salcyards yesterday, —a level that was some distance short of the rates paid a week ago and yet an improvement on those ruling Dei'ore last week’s sharp rise. The entry was one of the smallest of the season to dale. Agents from Hastings, VVhakatane and Patea were operating. There were one or two star lines in the entry of hoggets one line in particular of woolly wethers in excellent store order making 34s 3d. Wairakuia station had an entry of 96 which made 32s Id. Other wether hoggets realised from 19s lid to 25s 9d. A pen of lti f. and f. wether hoggets made 33s 2d. In the store section some of the individual prices were:— Wether Hoggets.—Fifty, good even line, 25s Dd; loti, woolly, size and condition, 34s 3d; 42,‘small, 245; 9ii, a good line, on account of Wairakaia station, 32s Id; 40, woolly and some Downcross from Wairakaia consignment, 28s Id. line Hoggets.—One hundred and sixty-four, small, 21s 2d; other smaller lines lrom 9s (id to 10s.

breeding lines.—Fitly, m.a. to G-yr., on account of Mr. J. Muir. Ngatapa. 24s t)d; G 5, m.a., showing up to ’Down rams from flooded area, 295; 220, 5 to G-yr., b.w. Rates for fat sheep were fully firm on those of last week, the condition of the sheep being generally lighter. Ewes fetched from 31s lOd to 355, with 37s Id for 2 and 4-th maiden ewes from Wairakaia station and 43s to 45s 6d for a few ’Down ewes. Second-class ewes made 245. The only entrv of wethers also from Wairakaia station made 43s 3d. There was keen competition for the increased entry of pigs. Heavy porkers made from £3 13s to £3 17s Gd, slips 475, and weaners from 26s to 30s.
