AUCKLAND—GISBORNE ROAD SERVICE

The anomaly of through Auckland-to-Gisborne passengers not being able to get o n service cars at times, while week-end trippers were carried from Auckland to Rotorua on those cars, was brought to the notice of members of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday night by Mr. A. Blackburn. He moved that the Railway Road services should be communicated with and asked that a certain number of seats be allocated for through passenbers, said the president, Mr. T. A. N. Corson, who considered that the service had' deteriorated over the past year or two.

When the above matter was referred yesterday to the manager .of the Railways Road Services at Gisborne he stated that at the Gisborne office passengers travelling to Hamilton and beyond were allotted their seat numbers when they booked, but passengers travelling to intermediate stops were not allotted their seats until just before the car left. Difficulty was often created by intending passengers failing to advise the office that they had changed their plans and would not be travelling on the day for which they had booked a seat. If an intending passenger came to the office with the money and there was a seat available on the car, no matter where that passenger was going he was entitled to a seat.
