MR. E. H. BAKER, chairman of the Cook County Council, presided at the monthly meeting of the council yesterday at which were also present Messrs M. L. Holden, J. T. Gordon, J. R. Hair, R. Graham, J. Eivers, M. T. B- Hall, R. C Murphy, A S. Gibson, F. S. Bowen, L. C. C. Field and F. Keats. MR. J. W. HADFIELD, general manager of the Linen Flax Corporation of New Zealand, will relinquish that position on September 30- Mr. Hadfield has been appointed director of the agronomy division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, a post formerly held by Mr. R. A. Calder, who died recently. MR. S. T. WILLIAMSON, chairman of the Williamson Shipping Company, Hong Kong, and honorary agent for the New Zealand Government there, has arrived at Wellington after visiting London and Australia, on his return journey to Hong Kong.
MR. AND MRS. C. N. TILLEY, Takapau, left Gisborne by railcar yesterday for Wairoa and Napier, en route to their home. Mr. Tilley is district vicepresident of the N.Z. Returned Services’ Association for the Wellington-East Coast district, extending from the Wairarapa to East Cape. His visit to Gisborne was in pursuance of a promise made recently to visit all branches in his area. He met members of the Wairoa executive last evening.
