South Island Steamer Service
A further move in the campaign to press the claims of the South Island has been made by members of both parties in the House of Representatives, who combined with a representative ol the Legislative Council to form a deputation to the Union Steam Ship Company to present a case for restoring the steamer service between Melbourne and the South Island. The general manager of the company told the deputation that this service would not be re-established without a continuing subsidy of £150,000 a year.
