MINERS’ HOLIDAY PAY BENEFITS
, SYDNEY. July 22. The Joint Coal Board will ask the Coal Industry Tribunal, Mr. F. Gallagher, to make more stringent qualifications on miners’ holiday pay benefits.
The chairman of the board, Mr K A. Cameron, said that the Miners’ Federation had not been able to secure discipline among its members and that about 37,000 tons of coal were being lost weekly by frivolous strikes.
At present the miners are entitled to one day’s annual leave for every 15 days worked.
The Minister of Mines. Mr. Baddeley, said that four days’ work weekly, at most, was all that could be expected from a miner because of the conditions in some mines.
