EVEN CLASS ENGAGED AT MANAWATU HUNT MEETING

(Herald Special Service.)

EVEN fields will be engaged at the Manawatu Hunt meeting at Awapuni tomorrow, with nothing outstanding in any of the events; in fact, m two or three there is very little form offering, with a good sprinkling of unknown quantities. The going win be holding after the recent rain.

KENNELS STEEPLECHASE The first race is the Kennel’s Hack Steeplechase, in which a very ordinary lot are listed, but as this is tor nonivinners over country what more could be expected? Prince Wberiko tops the list with 10.5 and has not yet raced between the flags, but should give a fair account of himself if able to jump. Morcton Bay on this track last month led for a mile and three-quarters in a minor steeplechase event and on that form might now manage to run successfully the two-mile journey. There are a dozen on the minimum and the only one so far to make any kind of a showing is Pollux, who once ran fourth. The Hastings Gelding Gold Dip is more likely to be seen in action at the combined meeting at Greenmeadows.

KIWITEA LADIES’ BRACELET

There is not a great deal to choose from in the Ladies’ Bracelet, run over a mile and a quarter at a 10.7 minimum. Midoon has the right condition for a race of this type, while he has won similar events, as also has the aged Adrigole. Nancy Boswells will have a track to her liking and, having won a highweight, is not overlooked. The Hastings-owned Lord Boswells is a possibility, and so is the three-year-old filly La Selle, although the conditions might not suit one of her age.

Tremello, the uncertain, heads the card in the Hack Hurdles and he would only need to be in the right mood to be very hard, despite his 11.4. First Act has occasionally turned on a good show but not too often, while Foxland may 'be in at the distribution of prizes. Incident will not be opposed by such good class as at Trentham so for that reason may be included in a final summing-up. Harris Tweed is another that will have suitable conditions. Royal Moutoa is said to be galloping and schooling pleasingly. Even Light is passed over in favour of Speed King, who of late has been attracting attention in his work at Awapuni. There does not appear to be much chance of a surprise from the lightweights unless it is provided by Skeiteh.

KIMBOLTON MAIDEN STAKES

There is more unknown quality than known in the Maiden Stakes, in which Murrayfield after his third at Trenthan last week may be elected a favourite Foxtonian has run one or two fair races in the past few weeks and for that reason is not discarded; no more is Nullah. Lady IMinter is a place possibility. Slievc Bloom has a little place form, and of the others Kaingapai, Myfox and Maelstrom may do best.

★MANAWATU HUNT CUP The chief jumping race of the day is the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, in which ELLERTON HALL, 11.6, carries

Lr.dy Oratory. No. 1 saddle cloth and his recent racing should see him now something like his best. FIND OUT has preferred the bigger stake to that at Greenmeadows and in this class his chances appear good. AG A KAY is unsound, but might survive the course this time. VERNON has form, and so has TAN-GA-TA-PAI, but not of recent date. THUNDERIIEAD will have to be taken on trust, while of those lower in the list, MORETON BAY, it started again may do best. TARARUA HACK HANDICAP A big field of middle-distance hacks has been accepted with in the 10furlong Tararua Handicap. Mcteorina is useful, but may ont be in the right condition to show her best. Coronara is hard to follow, but must appeal nevertheless. Lord Bradbury is not exactly reliable, while Mine Host at the weight should not lack for monetary support. Night Royal is another whose chances are not overlooked. Sergeant Jack, Ensign, Lord Croupier, and Bonny Lang may appeal as much as any of the lightweights. ★PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP There is a very fair field engaged in the seven-furlong President’s Handicap with Young Trent topping the list with 9.8. Not having raced for some time, he may not be at his best. I-fc is good in the mud. Kia Ora Katoa is honest and consistent, while Playtos is another that must be seriously considered. Sea Fury may be in need of a race, but conditions are made to order for her. while Miss Bairnsfather in her last start was very unlucky to be beaten by Citation at Hastings on July 3. The Derby winner Liebcstraum has not raced since the summer, so is not given a winning show. Slicilwyn and Emerge are apt to be hard, but Ngakoli may be in need of a race. Ccoraclare, Peter Tlicio and Master Baron all add interest to this hard-to-sum-up event HAUTERE HACK HANDICAP The Hautere Hack Handicap concludes the programme. Aristea, not having raced this year, can hardly be recommended. Lucy Ilian is another I that has not sported silk tor some 'months. Lord Plirosa pops up now | and then, as also does Lady Oratory. Gav Flame is one that might bring this coup oIT. Noble Knight is only so-so. but has won on easy going. Hattie Strife won on his last Awapuni appearance, but disappointed in the Novice a week ago when he suffered a little in the running. Cur-

rency Lass appeals as much as any of the others, but the last on the card, Vincettc, is capable of springing a surprise.
