CHOICE OF BROADCAST MUSIC

(P.R.) WELLINGTON. July 23. “Will the Minister in charge of Broadcasting assure the House that he Will not deprive people of the right to choose their own type of entertainment by submitting to the dictation of local union officials?” asked Mr. R. G. Gerard (Oppos.. Ashburton) and Mr. W. A. Sheat (Oppos., Patea) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. They inquired whether the Minister’s attention had been drawn to a demand being made on the Australian Government by the Musicians’ Union to ban the importation of records by certain popular American artists and to a threat by the secretary of the Musicians’ Union, Mr. T. E. Skinner (Govt., Tamaki) that similar action might be taken here.
