WAIROA DRAINAGE LOAN ON OFFER

(S.R.) WAIROA, July 22. The Wairoa Borough Council has decided to offer £15,000 of its sewerage loan of £71,000 to Wairoa investors. In announcing this last evening the Mayor Mr. C. V Chamberlain, stated that local investors would have another opportunity later on when the Wairoa Power Board seeks £IO,OOO. Thirty-seven building permits, with a total value of £20,910, have been issued by the Wairoa Borough Council’s building inspector over the past three months. Plunket Society Tribute A warm tribute was paid to Mrs. J. R. Gillespie by the mayor, Mr. C. V. Chamberlain, who presided at the annual meeting of the Wairoa Plunket Society. Mrs. Gillespie who, due to illhealth, has found it necessary to retire, has been a member of the local society for 25 years and for 11 years was president. It was decided to record appreciation of her great assistance in the minute book. Barry Cup Quest Formal approval of the side selected to contest the Barry Cup in the game with Waikohu at Te Karaka on Saturday was given at the weekly meeting of the Wairoa Rugby Sub-union management committee. Best wishes were extended to the team in the quest to regain the Barry Cup which was lost by Wairoa to East Coast in 1945. Wairoa were the first holders of the trophy, gaining it in 1923. A letter received from the Athletic club withdrew the protest lodged against Nuhaka for allegedly taking the field with a player whose transfer from another club had not been completed.
