CUPS HELD AND WON IN WAIAPU RUGBY

(Herald Correspondent.)

As in the previous week’s matches Rugby was still not up to standard in Saturday’s Tikitiki games. Two cups were at stake.

City retained the Banks Cup in the match with Valley. The holders took the 12—10 decision by a dropped goal and three penalties without crossing Valley’s line. J.' Manuel was successful with three kicks while G. Ferris added the fourth penalty. Valley’s ten points came from tries by B. Hiroki and K. Kururangi, both converted by S. Mitchell. Mr. G. Nepia was the referee.

In the second match Awanui, challengers for the Hyland Cup, defeated Rangers. 10—6. Both teams scored two tries, but J. Kururangi added the extra points to give Awanui the victory. Tries for Awanui were both by S. Te Kawa while M. Turei and K. Waihi scored for Rangers. Mr. H. Kururangi was the referee.

The junior match between Rangers and City was won by Rangers, 6—o. Mr. J. Richmond was the referee. •
