BACKWARD STATE OF COAL INDUSTRY
(10.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 20. Hundreds of pits had to be worked uneconomically under incredibly backward technical conditions, said Mr. A. Horner, secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers. He added that this was because the country needed coal and there was no
other source. Coal was more important than money. The necessary reforms would piobably cost £8,000,000 a year.
