SELF-GOVERNMENT MOVE IN SUDAN
(9 a.m.) LONDON. June 20. The Sudan Government in a gazette has formulated an ordinance establishing an Executive Council and Legislative Assembly for the Sudan “in accordance with the Government’s determination to do everything possible to help the Sudanese towards self-government.” The Governor-General of the Sudan on the British Government’s advice decided to promulgate the ordinance with Egypt f s approval. The promulgation had been delayed because of Egyptian objections. An eventual agreement between the two countries over the Sudan, it was stated, would presumably open the door for Ihe resumption of negotiations on the 1946 Anglo-Egyptian Treaty which broke clown in January, 1947.
