NO BAN ON SONG TRUMAN LIKES BEST
JACKSON (Mississippi), March 27.
A bill which would have made the playing of President Truman’s favourite song, “Missouri Waltz” a penal offence, was ruled out of order by the Legislature here yesterday.
The bill, introduced in rancour over Mr. Truman’s proposals to give the Negro full civil rights, proposed that the simple playing of the waltz should be punished by a fine of £250 and not less than five years in gaol. For playing it on a piano, the bill proposed a fine of £2500 and life imprisonment. The bill was ruled out of order only after a long debate.
