DELAY NOT TOLERATED
HOTEL IMPROVEMENTS “This committee is responsible for safeguarding the interests of the travelling public and we will not tolerate any delay by publicans in carrying out needed improvements to their hotels, ’ said Mr. L. G. H. Sinclair, S.M., chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Licensing Committee, at its annual meeting at Waipawa. Mr. Sinclair said that many publicans thought that the scarcity of building materials and priorities was a sound excuse for not carrying out improvements ordered by the committee. He added that in future the committee would require substantial evidence to prove that the publican concerned had actually made application for materials. “After experiences during the past months in New Zealand, the public is fire escape conscious, and we must see to it that none of the hotels in our district is ever guilty of failing to provide adequate escapes in _ times of emergency," Mr. Sinclair said.
