Use of Battalion Route Signs
Unit route signs, known especially well in the Middle East, the ”62'' superimposed on a black diamond ar.ci with a fem leaf, were used in Gisborne during the week-end to direct visitors from the town area to the Poho-o-Rawiri meeting house, where the reunion of members of the 25 tN.Z.) Infantry Battalion was being conducted. Sixty-two was the serial number allotted to the battalion. The unit signs were used for traffic direction at times of rest, and in the field when security restrictions were lifted. The plain black diamond was used for divisional moves.
