MEXICO SHOCKED BY MURALIST’S WORK

MEXICO CITY, June 1. The famous muralist Diego Rivera again has shocked his countrymen by painting “Dios no Existe” (God doesn t exist) in a panel for the dining-room of a sumptious new hotel. Archbishop Luis Martinez told the newspapers today that he would not bless the hotel until the words were erased. . , It is customary in Mexico to have the Church bless all new buildings, offices and businesses. The hotel manager said he discovered the words recently and asked the artist to remove them, but Rivera refused. The mural is called “Sunday Morning in the Park”, and shows a document held by the Mexican philospher Ignacio Rameriz, which states: "Ignacio Rameriz has affirmed and demonstrated logically and experimentally that God does not exist.’ Rivera has frequently aroused bitter controversy with the radical expression of his art.
