CASINO FOR NOUMEA?
A French company proposes to build a casino with luxury accommodation at a cost of £IOO.OOO at Noumea to attract Australian and New Zealand tourist trade. The proposed site of the casino is on Anse Vata beach where the United States Navy's South-West Pacific Com-mander-in-Chicf, Admiral Halsey, had his headouarters during the war Mr. Pierre R<.ighasse, who is also consulting architect for the French Government in New Caledonia, told of the plans for the casino when he arrived in Sydney recently. Ho said that if materials were available the casino should be built in a year. Tt would consist of a separate hotel and a gaming and reception block. Mr. Raichnsso is seeking a young Australian assistant to work with him or. the plans.
