PETROL FOR FARMERS AT WEEK-ENDS

(P.A-) AUCKLAND, June 4. The oil fuel controller has directed petrol retailers to supply petrol to farmers ’ for farming purposes on Saturdays and Sundays provided the usual entries are made in the returns of week-end sales. This action, according to a statement by the Fedeiated Farmers has been taken because the motor spirits weekend sales restriction notice, 1947, had forbidden the supply of petrol to farmers at week-ends. The controller had, however exercised his powers to waive the restrictions in the case of farmers- needing petrol for work on Saturdays or Sundays.
