“LABOUR BILL PENDING FOR LAND SOCIALISATION”—MR. HOLLAND
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 4. “I understand that the Government has under consideration legislation to curtail the rights of thousands of land occupiers who at present have the legal right to the freehold of their properties,” said the Leader of the National Party, Mr. S. G. Holland, at a meeting of the Auckland division of the party last night.
Mr. Holland said the objective of*' Labour Governments was the socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange and that, finally, the land was to be socialised. He had reason to believe that the coming: session of Parliament . would reveal further steps in the socialisation programme. 1 “It is well known that socialisation * tneans State ownership of the land, and it would appear that the Government is determined to make this further step , in the overthrow of the system which ‘ encourages private ownership of land,’ 1 continued Mr. Holland. "This is perhaps one of the knots ( tlje Postmaster-General, Mr. Hackett, was speaking of tying up this session—another knot a-ound the neck of pri- j vate ownership." .
