U.S. NAVY SHOWS FORCE IN MEDITERRANEAN
(11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 2. The United States Navy is irf the Mediterranean for the dual purpose of putting on "a show of force” that would deter other nations from aggres-
sive action and to evacuate American occupation forces if necessary. Admiral Louis Denfeld, Chief of Naval Operations, gave that information to a closed session of the House of Representatives Naval Appropriations sub-committee in April, but it was not released until yesterday. Admiral Denfeld said the entire Mediterranean force, consisting of one carrier, three cruisers and two destroyers was fully manned and ready for action.
