AUSTRALIAN PETROL IMPORTS

Imports of petrol into the Commonwealth this financial year are expected to be a record. In the first nine months 303,000,000 gallons have been imported. The amount tor inu whole of last year was 357,000,Q0U gallons
Despite the dollar shortage, petrol imports from America may also be a record. In the nine months 62,000,000 gallons have been received from America compared with 46,000,000 gallons last year. In addition to the American imports. Australia received in the nine months 221.000,000 gallons of petrol from the Middle East and 12,C00,000 gallons from the Netherlands East Indies. Commonwealth officials in Melbourne agree that the over-all petrol consumption would have to be reduced because of the dollar and supply difficulties.
