With a total rainfall of 10.26 in., May, 1948, was 1 the wettest month ever experienced in Waipukurau during the 50 years that recordings have been taken. Taupo experienced the wettest month in memory, the rainfall for May being 8.94 in., with rain falling on 18 days. This raised the lake level in the same period by ljin. The level is still slowly rising.
