DAMAGED MOTOR SHIP SLOWLY FLOODING

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 4.

The propeller shaft tunnel of the Turnbull Shipping Company’s 5032-ton motor vessel Eastgate, which was damaged when she bumped aground after her engines failed on entering New Plymouth port on Monday, is slowly flooding and the bulkhead door has been closed.

No pumping has been done so far, but a pump additional to the ship's own pumping gear has been taken aboard.

A New Plymouth firm has repair materials ready, but until more is known about the damaged plates it is not known how the repairs will be made.

The ship was examined yesterday by the New Plymouth Harbour Board's diyer.
