FIGHT TO SAVE BREAK-UP OF PLANE
Melbourne, June 2. With a passenger suspended from the shattered hatch and hanging on to the Ha; plug fabric, an Avro Anson plane made a safe landing on one engine at Essential aerodrome, Mel bourne. A gale near Ballarat tossed the plane around severely, tore away the emergency hatch and loosened the fabric on the fuselage. The passenger reached through the hatchway and endeavoured to hold the fabric ] together while the pilot made for Essendon. One engine then failed and. as the plane passed over Bacchus Marsh. 30 miles from Melbourne, strips of the fabric commenced to fall away. The passenger retained his grip, however, until the plane had landed.
