VULNERABLE TO GERM WARFARE
NEW YORK, May 10. Russia’s chances in a germ war against the United States are not taken too seriously by Dr. Selman Waksman, discoverer of streptomycin. The Russian-born scientist said the Soviet would be far more vulnerable to germ warfare than the United States and would be foolish to begin that type of offensive. He said it was his guess that the Rusians were far behind America in bacteriological research. Russia did not have the sanitation and medical facilities to form a strong first-line of defence against germ attack. Total germ warfare against American crops would have to cover too large an area to be feasible.
