SPOTTING AIRCRAFT
SEARCH FOR PASTURE
A grazier in New South Wales intends to use an aeroplane to “shadow” flocks of water birds to their secret wnlerholes during droughts, Mr. W. Gall,'of Langawirra station, CO miles north-west of Broken Hill, has bought an Austcr Autocrat monoplane to use as a water “spotting” aircraft when the station dams look like drying up and to search his GO,OOO-ncre property for new pastures when feed is scarce. Mr. Peter Brown, manager of Kingsford Smith Aviation Services, said water birds puzzled many graziers in droughts. While sheep died for want of water, swans and ducks could be seen flying overhead on a fixed course to a secret water rendezvous. Graziers seldom found the place. Mr. Gall, flying well above the flock, could trail the birds indefinitely and plot the waterhole on his map,
