TWELFTH TIME
LABOUR PRESIDENT CONFIDENCE SHOWN OTHERS RE-ELECTED (P.A) DUNEDIN. May 4. For the twelfth time in succession Mr. J. Roberts, M.L.C., of Wellington, has been elected as president of the New Zealand Labour Party. The elections were held this morning in the Town Hall at the annual conference of the party. The voting for the presidency was: J. Roberts. 387; A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., 252; C- L. Carr, M.P., 14; J. Mathison, M.P., 14; informal, 3.
Mr. Roberts was elected on the first count. His nearest opponent, the Minister of Industries and Commerce. Mr. Nordmeyer. was elected as vicepresident ot the party on the first count. He held this position last year. The secretary-treasurer, Mr. A. J. McDonald, was also re-elected on the first count. His opponent was Mr. K. Borland.
The voting in the vice-presidential election resulted: A. IT. Nordmeyer, 368; R. F Barter. 124; Miss M. B. Howard, 77: P. G. Connolly, 44: ,R. B. Grant, 27; J. Mathison. 23; A. C. Baxter. 18: A. M. Finlay, 15 J. B. Kent, 4. For the secretaryship the voting was A. J. McDonald. 620: K. Borland, 68.
