STRONG ATTACK

AID BRITAIN PLAN MILITANT GROUP OTHERS DEFEND WORK endorsement of policy ( p.A.) DUNEDIN, April 29. The aid-to-Britain campaign was strongly attacked by some delegates to the annual conference of fhe New Zealand Federation of Labour, but the policy of the federation in supporting aid to Britain was finally endorsed by a big majority, according to a statement issued to the press. The subject was debated for more than two hours, during which Messrs. H Barnes. T Hill and others claimed that the whole design of the campaign was to extract more work from the workers. . , , , Mr. H. G. Kilpatrick, a member of the National Council of the Aid-for-Britain Organisation, said that for Britain was also aid for New Zealand and the chairman of the council. Mr. F. P Walsh, deserved the thanks and suooort of all workers for his efforts. Mr. W. B. Richards said the campaign had been used to attack the 40hotir week and was now a dead cavnF Crook, a member of the council said there had never been a question of increasing hours for workers. Replying, Mr. Walsh said that the “hard economic fact” was that the standard of living of the people of New Zealand was closely allied with that of the people of Britain where workers in the heavy industries received higher rations than those in other sections. The watersider? of New Zealand would find themselves without employment if there were no trade with aid campaign had never resulted in an attack on the hours of work in New Zealand, and there was no question of interference with awards or agreements.
