AMERICAN PROJECT (9 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, April 28. The United States Atomic Energy commission announced tonight that it would construct at the University of California at Berkeley a cyclotron 20 times bigger than any existing atomsmasher. , , It will generate 10,000 million electron volts, compared with the output of the present largest cyclotron—which is also located at Berkeley—of 350 million. The new project is estimated to cost 9,000,000 dollars. Construction begins early in autumn and will occupy three to five years.
