WESTERN UNION POWERS APPROACH TO U.S. HINT (10.30 a.m.) BRUSSELS, April 27. The Prime Minister, M. Spaak, replying in the Chamber of Deputies to a question whether the United States would guarantee the five-Power treaty between Britain, France and the Benelux countries, said: “It is possible and probable that guarantees will be asked from Powers other than the five signatories.” The Associated Press correspondent says it is understood that M.Spaak was referring directly to the United States. The Foreign Office states that, in accordance with the five-Power treaty of Brussels, the Ministers of Defence and the Chiefs of Staff of the signatory Powers will meet in London next Friday.
