PRESIDENT’S TROPHY FIRST ROUND PLAYED Weather conditions were ideal for the first round on Saturday of the president’s trophy competition of the Wairoa Golf Club. Results follow. West and Bauld d- Bauld and Howard; Heslop and Crarer d. A. E. Smith and Johnston, 1 up; Haynes and Thomson d. Nilson and Handyside, 3 and 1; Dunlop and Forsyth d. Graham and Mann, at the 19th: Mowat and Mowat d. McCaskill and Krogh, 2 and 1: C- C. Smith and W. Smith d. Beedell and Parkhill, 4 and 3; Baird and Tonkinson w. Graham and Mac Kay, 2 up; Scott and Prebble d. de Lautour and McCreal, by default. The second round is to be completed by May 8. A four-ball bogey competition, also played on Saturday, was won by S. Haynes and A. B. Thomson, with a good card of 8 up, closely followed by W- Watson and G. Elwin, 6 up. The Moore Tikis were again contested. Graham and Watson defeating the week-old holders, Jelbert and Goldstone. The teams proceeding to Napier on Saturday travel by bus, leaving the depot at 6.15 a.m.
