JAM-CHEAPER FROM THE TIN
TN a report to the Cook Hospital Board yesterday Miss M. B. McKenzie, inspecting dietitian of the Department of Health, noted the extent to which jam-making and fruit-preserving were undertaken in the hospital. Mrs. E. R. Scott drew attention to this activity, and remarked that it must have compared well with similar activities elsewhere to deserve the inspecting officer’s notice. The managing-secretary, Mr. C. A. Harries, reported that the dietitian's costs had been examined and as a result an instruction had been given to discontinue the jam-making and fruit-preserving activities. ‘‘We can’t carry it on economically,” said Mr. Harries. “It is cheaper to get the jam and fruit from the tin."
