SURGEONS’ BID TO SAVE LIFE OF WOMAN CANCER VICTIM

(N.Z.P.A.-~Reuter— Copyright.) (11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 26. Eminent surgeons of the Sydney Hospital tomorrow will try to save the life of a New Zealand woman who was a patient of Mr. Braund by removing her lower jaw. She is Mrs. Doreen Davey, aged 29, of Waihi, the mother of four children.

Senior doctors say that a large cancer in the right cheek has made it impossible for her to speak or breathe normally, and that unless it is removed she will not live longer than six months.

With her husband she flew to Sydney on March 10 and commenced the Braund treatment on March 18. He injected his “secret formula" into the cheek on March 25 "This woman went through a hell of agony in the following six hours," said the man at whose house the couple were staying. “Her face swelled and both eyes almost closed." He added that Mr. Braund administered a second injection on March 31 and that on April 14, he told Mr. Davey there was no hope of saving nis wife. She then went to the Sydney Hospital and "when admitted, she had a bleeding ulcer in the cheek as big as a shilling as a result ot Mr. Braund'3 injections. The surgeons had to operate to stem the bleeding.” The surgeons oeiieve they can save Mrs. Davy because the cancer is not in the secondary stage and has not spread. After the operation the jaw can be replaced and the lace restored by plastic surgery.

The decision to remove the lower jaw was made at a conference of all surgeons attending at the Sydney Hospital. Senior doctors have revealed that two women cancer sufferers who had received treatment from Mr. Braund died recently in the Sydney Hospital.
