ANZAC DAY IN AUSTRALIA (10 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 26 Anzac Day wes celebrated throughout Australia yesterday by dawn services at cenotaphs followed by. marches of returned soldiers during the afternoon. In the main cities many people followed the usual procedure of keeping an all-night, vigil jn preparation for the dawn service. . . . _ , ~ In wintvy conditions in Sydney the first people to arrive at the Cenotapn for vesterdav morning's service did so at 6 p.m on 'Saturday. Early yesterday morning over 2000 were present. The service'was impressively conducted in the light of torches The processions of ex-servicemen were well attended, but the reunions suffered because of the beer strike in Sydney. Many reunions that were to have been held lust Saturday nignt were cancelled. Among them was a reunion of the New Zealand sub-branch of ’he Returned Servicemen’s League. Though all the usual Anzac Day cere- .* monies were observed yesterday, today is a full holiday with race meetings in the main centres.
