TABLET DEDICATED

PATUTAHI MEMORIAL

DISTRICT MEN WHO FELL Following a service in the Patutahi Hall yesterday afternoon, a large attendance from the surrounding districts assembled at the Patutahi, Ngatapa Waerenga-o-kuri and Waituhi memorial adjacent to the hall for the unveiling and dedication of a tablet on the memorial. The service in the hall was conducted by the Rev. H. Speight, and an inspiring address given by the Rev. K. I. Cameron. The text of the address was from the sixth verse of the 12th chapter of the Book of Exodus: ‘‘What mean ye by this service?” Anzac Day, he said, was still a holy day, a day of praise and thanksgiving, a day of remembrance and a day of dedication. Prior to the unveiling and dedication, Mr. Speight said it was right that a woman should be called upon to unveil the memorial tablet because the women of the district during the war years had endeavoured to do so much for those away at the front. Mrs. A. E. Stevens, wife of the chairman of the Patutahi Domain Board, and president of the Patutahi Women’s Institute, then unveiled the tablet. The names of the district men who fell in World War II were:—E. Andrews, M. Brennan, P. Cameron, J. McCutchan, Jas. McCutchan, A. Costain, S. Hyde, C. Lyons. B. McSweeney, R. Porter, M. Parker, H. Ritchie, G. Smith, A. Semmens, A. Simpson, and T. Tupara. PARADE IN HONG KONG (10 a.m.) HONG KONG, April 25.
