JOCKEY’S 3000 WINNERS
AMERICAN RECORD SET NEW YORK, April 23. The 33-year-old English-born jockey Johnny Longden, today became the first jockey in American history to ride 3000 winners when he brought Bub home first in the fourth race at San Mateo, California. Longden, who rode the former Australian horse, Shannon, into second place on April 20, had his first win at Salt Lake City in 1927. The English jockey, Gordon Richards, who is still racing in England and has ridden 3508 winners, is the only jockey with more victories than Longden.
