LODGE FUNCTION
OFFICERS INSTALLED STAR OF GISBORNE The recent installation of officers of the Star of Gisborne Lodge. 1.0.0. F., N.Z., was attended by over 50 members of the order, there being a number of visitors from Wairoa and Man gapapa. The ccremonv was conducted by the district deputy grand master. Mr. P. J Rohan, who was assisted by the following Wairoa officers: Mr. Vic. Lancaster D.D.G.M., Mr. G. W. Johansen, marshal. Messrs. C. Gee and A. M. Patterson, secretaries. Mr. R. Goodiey, treasurer The visitors from Wairoa were headed by Mr. R. McKay, r.oble grand, while Mr. Harold Dover, jurior P.G. headed those from Mangapapa. Officers installed were: Noble grand, Mr. Allan B. Priestley: vice-grand. Mr. Eric Wilcox: warden. Mr. L. Wilcox; conductor. Mr. A Masemann; chaplain. Mr. R. D. Moore: financial secretary, Mr. C. L. Harvey; recording secretary. Mr. W. F. Corbett; treasurer, Mr. J. English. The years of service to tiie lodge since their occupancy of the principal chair was recognised by the presentation of past grand jewels to Mr. J. Hossack by tiie P.D.G.M., and to Mr. W. Davison by Mr. H. B. Wilcox, Grand Lodge representative. Mr. Cyril Evans was commended for his active interest and work prior to and since his return from naval service, having just completed his term as junior PG.
The usual toast list and an enjoyable programme of entertainment contribut ed to by Messrs. A. Wright. Benito, Zame, H. Dover, W. Turbitt, the Gooch brothers. W. Davison and V. Lancaster, with Mr. N. Redstone as accompanist, followed tlie ceremony. Mr. Rohan reported on arrangements for the institution of a nc-w Rebekah iodge in Wairoa early in May. and Mr. B. H. Wilcox reported on Grand Lodge aspects of the venture Memories of the earliest workers and officers of the lodge were recalled in tlie toast to “Absent Friends,” the late Mr. Robert Robb, past grand master, Mr. E. D. Smith, responsible for the institution of the encampment branch in Gisborne. Messrs. G. W. Hilton and G. D. Muirhead. all being mentioned. Tribute was paid also to’ those members, Messrs. Denis Hurley. Darcy Heeney and Edgar Mawson. who had lost their lives during the Second World War.
