AUSTRALIA’S STAND

STILL FOR PARTITION ATTITUDE TO U.S. PLAN '<lo a.m.) CANBERRA, Apri] 23. The Minister of Externa] Affairs, Dr. H. V. Evatt,. answering a question in the House of Representatives yesterday on Australia’s opposition to the United States trusteeship proposals for Palestine. said: “The attitude of the Australian delegation in New York is that the United Nations Assembly decision of only a few months ago should not be set aside unless there are new facts to be submitted to the assembly and certainly not because there is violence or threats of violence. “Simply because America has changed her attitude imposes no obligation on Australia, New Zealand or any other country to follow her,” he added. Dr. Evatt added that Australia's views on the partitioning of Palestine were the same as those expressed yesterday by the New Zealand delegate, Sir Carl Berendsen.
