Shortage of Transport
On the grounds that the six vehicle authorities now' available to the council’s metal contractor were quite inadequate to enable the contractor to meet all the requirements of the council, the Cook County Council was requested yesterday to support an application to the transport authority for a further six authorities. In the discussion it was forecast that strong opposition would be forthcoming from the Carriers’ Association when the application was heard by the transport authority and Mr. J. R. Hair expressed reluctance to creating conditions which would give one carrier a practical monopoly in county cartage. It was agreed the council s olllcers submit evidence as to the difficulty it had found in getting its work done, owing to the inadequacy of general transport facilities, without expressing support for any particular contractor.
