OBITUARY

FORMER FARMER MR. J. K. MHNTOSH A man who undertook the conveyance of mails between Gisborne and \\ airoa when the roads were only rough tracks, Mr. James Kenneth Me Intosh, died suddenly on Tuesday at the age of 71 years. Born in Gisborne, he was the eldest of 12 in his family. He was educated at the .Makaraka School. Mr. Mclntosh's connection with the farming life of the community was varied, including 12 years ns a fat stock buyer for the Gisborne Sheepfarmers Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company. Upon his retirement he was one of the 1 T! 0S . experienced stock buyers in the district. Farmers throughout the disti ict will also miss his services ns an expei t cattle spo.ver ns lie was able to put through as many as 400 cows a day.

Mr. Mclntosh farmed in the Mata wliero and \\ aerenga a-hika districts for many years, growing a large amount of lucerne and maize.
