REACHES SAFETY
MISSING DEERSTALKER LOST IN HEAVY BUSH LIVED ON VENISON (S.R.) WAIROA, April 21. The missing deerstalker. Mr. Ronald Robertson, aged 19, who left Maungataniwha station on Sunday morning, came out at Ngatapa station late yesterday afternoon. He said he realised he was lost an hour after entering the bush on Sunday. He had trailed a stag which he had shot, and then found himself a considerable distance from his camp. On Sunday night Mr. Robertson slept under the skin of a hind which lie shot and on Monday he started to follow a trail toward the Te Hoe River He eventually reached a Maori house and yesterday morning set out for Ngatapa station. While he was bushed Mr. Robertson shot nine stags in addition to a hind. One of the stags, he said, was of an exceptionally good type, having a beautiful head of no fewer than 16 points. He had tried to carry back this head and also four fine skins, but the task was too great. During the time he was lost he lived on venison, grilling himself steaks as he went. He appears to be none the worse for having spent three days ir the open.
