RABBIT DESTRUCTION
N.Z. COUNCIL APPOINTED FUNCTIONS DEFINED (T.A.) WELLINGTON,' April 21. The personnel and functions of the Rabbit Destruction Council, established under the Rabbit Nuisance Amendment Act. 1947. have been announced by Mr. E. L. Cullen. Minister of Agriculture. Members of the council have been appointed by the Governor-General as i follows: Messrs. Eric Bertie Baker and Charles Athol Williams nominated by the North Island Rabbit Boards’ Association: Messrs. George Bartrum Baker, Thomas McKenzie and Cyril Douglas Matthews, nominated by the South Is and Rabbit Boards’ Association; Mr. Jthn Arthurs, nominated by the N.Z. Federation of Labour; Mr. George Franklyn Yerex. representing the wild life branch of the Internal Affairs De*partment and Mr. Gerald Millar, representing the Department of Agriculture. The general functions of the council are to investigate the extent of the rabbit nuisance in New Zealand, to devise and promote measures for the purpose of destroying rabbits and generally to promote the control of the rabbit nuisance in New Zealand, to coordinate and generally to guide and supervise the activities of rabbit boards, to make recommendations to the Minister in relation to all or any of foregoing matters, to make recommendations to the Minister as to the constitution, alteration union or abolition of rabbit districts, to make recommendations to the Minister as to the rates of levy on rabbit-skins provided for by this Act and as to the disposal of the proceeds of the levy. The first meeting of the council, which will be held in Wellington on Wednes. day, April 21, will be formerly opened by the Minister.
