LONG TAXI TRIPS
BANNED BY MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 21. Long-distance taxi trips from the four main centres are to be banned except in urgent cases. This decision, which follows discussions with the executive of the New Zealand Taxi Federation was announced by the Minister 'ol Transport, Mr. F. Hackett, this after* noon. The Minister said the object was to save petrol, and the only trips involved would be those of 20 miles (one way) or more. Permission to exceed thai distance would be granted only in th( case of an urgency such as sickness oi bereavement, and taxi drivers would have to obtain permits.
