STOCK MOVEMENTS
SHORTAGE OF WAGONS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 20. The demands by farmers and stock buyers in the drought-stricken areas of the North Island for railway wagons are creating great diflicuties tnl the supply of rolling stock, states the Department of Agriculture. Farmers in an effort to save their stock are moving animals to districts where there is more feed. Others are reducing their carrying capacity by selling surpluses. The effect on the normal movements of stock has been marked, and while the Railways Department is doing all possible jto meet the exceptional demands, farmers could help others by holding their stock as long as possible. This would enable those in the greatest difficulties to be assisted first and allow the orderly working of plans to alleviate the wagon supply position.
