SIGNAL STOPS TRAIN POLICE PROBE DISASTER (10 a.m.) LONDON, April 19. The police announced that a serviceman pulled the communication cord on the Glasgow-to-London passenger express which was involved in the train crash in Cheshire. The police added that the man was going home on leave and apparently stopped the train to alight at Winsford where he lived.
The coroner today opened the inquest at Winsford into the deaths of 24 people in the crash last Saturday, but adjourned it after taking identification and medical evidence.
